Color Wheel

I love the color wheel rhyme from the website

http://www.sanford-artedventures.com/

Though this week when I tried to access it it was down, so if you read the tech blog I used a archive website to find it. So until it is fixed I am using:

http://web.archive.org/web/20050125090828/http://www.sanford-artedventures.com/play/color1/color1.html

or the old site which I liked the layout better anyways:

http://web.archive.org/web/20050208090039/http://www.sanford-artedventures.com/

You can project it or just print the rhyme, if you have access to a projector the games are nice.  I used this rhyme with a handout. Since we always have picture day on Friday with 1st grade.  I set this lesson up so they learn something about color without making a mess.

I gave each student a glue stick and after going over the color wheel using the website they glued the colored triangles in the correct order.

Next we finish the rhyme and look through the crayon box to find which colors are dark a shade and light a tint. Then just color what ever way they want into the vin diagram If they find a true color they can color it over the words.

watercolor TIP

Have a strip of watercolors and you do not want the younger student dipping into black or brown and mudd up their painting. Or you only wnat them to use primary colors that day? Place a piece of masking tape over the colors you do not want them to use.

Soon it will be art time again

Any one learn anything new over the summer they would like to share.

My son went to camp this summer and they created mud kente cloth t-shirts. The teacher mixed soil, water and a container craft acrylic brown paint like you can buy at walmart. Then she placed an african animal cutout made from construction paper. Then let the kids sponge around the animal.

Calligraphy

Great video I show to start the class: http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/audioslideshow/2010/feb/18/work-and-careers

I have the students create quills from large duck feathers.

Students complete a practice page before starting:

Next they create either initials, name or they may create a pen & ink drawing.

google art project

www.googleartproject.com  I really recommend checking out. It is like google earth but in museum format the kids love it. It is a great virtual tour of almost any large museum you can think of and more. I will be going over the different areas and things I like on the tech. blog.
